Why NVIDIA's $16,000 GPU stays out of gaming rigs
NVIDIA's RTX PRO 6000 is more powerful than the RTX 5090, but it costs eight times as much and is built for professionals, not gamers.
In brief
NVIDIA's RTX PRO 6000 is more powerful than the RTX 5090, but it costs eight times as much and is built for professionals, not gamers. The RTX 5090 is not the top
NVIDIA's GeForce RTX 5090 costs one thousand nine hundred ninety nine dollars and has thirty two gigabytes of memory. But there is a more powerful desktop GPU above it in NVIDIA's lineup.
Meet the RTX PRO 6000
NVIDIA calls the RTX PRO 6000 Blackwell Workstation Edition the most powerful desktop GPU ever created. Its current U.S. price is sixteen thousand dollars, up from thirteen thousand two hundred fifty dollars.
“"most powerful desktop GPU ever created."”
Massive memory for professionals

The RTX PRO 6000 has ninety six gigabytes of GDDR7 ECC memory, compared to thirty two gigabytes on the RTX 5090. It also has twenty four thousand sixty four CUDA cores and a max board power of six hundred watts.
Built for work, not games
NVIDIA targets the RTX PRO 6000 at AI developers, engineers, and three D artists working on massive projects, large datasets, VR environments, and multi-app workflows. Professional drivers and enterprise support matter more than gaming performance.
Gaming performance does not justify the cost
Testing found the RTX PRO 6000 was about fourteen percent faster in Cyberpunk two thousand seventy seven and eleven percent faster in Star Wars Outlaws. At sixteen thousand dollars, it costs about eight times the RTX 5090's original price.
Why gamers should not buy it

The RTX PRO 6000 can be purchased through NVIDIA's Marketplace and workstation partners, but gaming improvements are single digits or low double digits. The economics make sense only when the card does professional work it was designed for.
The bottom line
NVIDIA's RTX PRO 6000 workstation GPU costs sixteen thousand dollars, nearly eight times the RTX 5090's price, because its ninety six gigabytes of memory and professional drivers target AI developers and engineers, not gamers.
