Why your phone is the safer wallet
Biometrics, tokenization and remote wipe make a digital wallet harder to rob than the leather one in your pocket.
In brief
Biometrics, tokenization and remote wipe make a digital wallet harder to rob than the leather one in your pocket. A digital wallet never hands a merchant your real card number, and you can kill it remotely if your phone goes missing. Originally reported by Engadget.
Convenience is the smaller win

Apple Wallet and Google Wallet mean you can leave the house without your actual wallet. The bigger payoff is the security stack sitting behind that tap.
“They are packed with security features, including biometrics, tokenization and remote deactivation.”
Every payment needs you

You can't set up Apple Pay without a lock screen passcode, and every transaction is confirmed with Face ID, Touch ID or that code. Plastic often waves small purchases through with nothing.
Even the watch locks up
The Apple Watch has no biometric sensor, so it needs its own PIN. Enter it once when you put it on, and it stays ready until you take it off your wrist.
No card, no skimmer

Skimmers work by attaching to real card readers and grabbing your details as you insert. You never insert anything, so there's nothing to skim. Fake tap points exist but are rare.
Merchants never see your number
Tokenization swaps your real card number for a device-specific one, and each payment uses a one-time code. Steal that code and it's worthless everywhere else.
“Each transaction happens through a one-time code that's useless for anything else if it's stolen.”
Lost phone, instant kill switch

Find My and Find Hub can locate a missing device, sometimes even powered off, and wipe the wallet. That kills the digital copies only, so no bank calls and no waiting for replacement cards.
