A ridge that will not move

High pressure has parked over North Texas, locking the region into triple-digit heat and pushing wildfire worries higher.

“The stubborn ridge of high pressure remains in control this week.”

Sixty days, zero rain

DFW International Airport has gone 60 straight days without measurable rainfall, one of the three longest dry streaks the area has recorded.

The deficit keeps growing

With no meaningful rain in sight, the yearly rainfall shortfall has widened to roughly 3.25 inches.

Wind plus dry air equals fire

Southerly gusts to 20 mph and falling afternoon humidity keep the wildfire threat elevated west of I-35 and across parts of North Texas.

Heat index near 107

A heat advisory covers the Metroplex eastward, where humidity pushes the heat index as high as 107. Highs near 101 sit one degree shy of daily records.

No fall in the forecast

The ridge may nudge east late in the week, adding clouds and dropping highs into the upper 90s. Real relief is still missing from the seven-day outlook.

“true relief or fall-like weather remains absent from the seven-day forecast”
