One year since deadly shooting at Dallas ICE facility

On September 24, 2024, a 29-year-old shooter fired 17 shots at a Dallas ICE detention facility, killing two detainees and injuring a third before taking his own life.

Victims identified as Garcia and Guzman

The two men killed were Miguel Angel Garcia of Mexico and Norlan Guzman Fuentes of El Salvador. Garcia left behind five children, including a newborn.

Shooter had anti-ICE messaging

The gunman, Joshua Jahn, left anti-ICE messaging near his body. Investigators believe he was targeting ICE officers in the attack.

Garcia's widow, Stephany Gauffeny, is raising five children alone, including one who just turned one. She says the hardest part is watching her children miss their father.

“That has been the hardest part. Just them missing him.”

Community honors victims with mural

A mural of Garcia and Guzman was painted in Oak Cliff earlier this year. Gauffeny frequently visits the mural and her husband's grave to remember him.

Autopsy still under federal investigation

One year later, Gauffeny is still waiting for her husband's full autopsy results. ICE has not publicly released any investigative findings from the shooting.

“There is no way that we can ever forget what happened.”
