Sonar boats, water drones and aircraft swept Lake Park after someone went missing on a Saturday afternoon.
In brief
Sonar boats, water drones and aircraft swept Lake Park after someone went missing on a Saturday afternoon. A modern water search is a coordinated grid operation, and the public's job is to stay out of the way so the roads and ramps stay clear. Originally reported by FOX 4 News Dallas-Fort Worth.
A search begins at Lake Park
Rescue crews launched an intensive search near Lake Park in Lewisville on Saturday afternoon after reports of a missing person.
Four agencies, one operation
Lewisville Fire led the response with Lewisville Police, Texas Game Wardens and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.
Water, shore and inland
Personnel were spread across three sectors at once: the open water, the shoreline, and inland areas around the park.
“has deployed personnel across water, shoreline, and inland sectors”
Sonar boats run grids
Rescue boats fitted with sonar worked the lake in grid patterns, the methodical sweep that keeps searchers from covering the same water twice.
Drones above and ashore
Shore-based water drones scanned shallow access points while unmanned aircraft flew wide-area reconnaissance over the park.
Stay away from the park
Officials asked the public to avoid the area so roads, boat ramps and access points stay clear for dive teams. Updates will come as information is confirmed.
The takeaway
A modern water search is a coordinated grid operation, and the public's job is to stay out of the way so the roads and ramps stay clear.
