Gas leak forces mass evacuation
An outside gas leak at Factory Design District Apartments in Dallas forced a building-wide evacuation last Friday. The 325-unit complex, about 90% occupied, was shut down as a precaution even though no gas was detected inside.
Leak capped, but readings linger
Atmos Energy technicians successfully capped both gas lines Saturday evening, stopping the active leak. However, small gas readings continued outside the building through Tuesday as crews worked to clear the area.
Building cleared for restoration

On September 23, Atmos Energy cleared the building after conducting a walkthrough with Dallas Fire-Rescue and confirming all readings were normal. The company restored gas and power to the complex.
Residents return Friday at noon
Building management is cleaning and making repairs before residents can return starting Friday, September 25 at noon. The evacuation lasted five days.
Resident loses months of breast milk
Resident Acacia Harris lost her supply of frozen breast milk that she had been building for months due to the power shutoff. She says no amount of money can recoup the lost time and effort.

Atmos offers claims for losses

Atmos Energy has established a claims process for residents affected by the evacuation. Residents who lost items or suffered other impacts can file a claim through the company.
