Stabbing leaves victim in coma

On September 12, a fight outside Dos Amigos Bar in Bishop Arts turned violent. Abraham Herrera, 22, was stabbed twice in the chest and remains in critical condition at Methodist Hospital.

Suspect identified through footage

Police identified Lazaro Garcia, 26, using security cameras from the bar, cell phone videos from witnesses, and tips from an unknown witness who called police on September 17.

Garcia arrested and charged

On September 20, Garcia was arrested and charged with two counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. He was booked into Dallas County Jail with bond set at $50,000.

What sparked the violence

An arrest affidavit says Garcia got into a verbal altercation with Herrera and two others inside the bar. After a bouncer moved them outside, the situation turned physical and Garcia stabbed Herrera.

Herrera was defending his girlfriend

Herrera's family says he stepped in after his girlfriend was insulted and hit in the parking lot. He thought it would be a fistfight but was stabbed in the chest instead.

“He was stabbed in the heart after the altercation continued. He didn't know he was stabbed.”

Victim remains in medically induced coma

Abraham Herrera is currently in a medically induced coma at Methodist Hospital in Oak Cliff. His family says video footage shows he didn't realize he had been stabbed during the fight.
