Brief rain breaks dry streak
A weak cold front delivered 1.01 inches of rain to Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport on Monday, snapping a recent dry spell but falling short of addressing the broader drought.
High pressure returns with heat
High pressure is rebuilding across North Texas, bringing mostly clear skies and afternoon highs in the mid-to-upper 90s through the rest of the week, well above the normal average of 87 degrees.
Air quality alert issued
An air quality alert is in effect through the afternoon due to light winds and high heat creating stagnant conditions across the region.
Lakes remain critically low
Area lakes continue to sit significantly below conservation capacity, with some locations like Benbrook dropping roughly half a foot in just one week.
Rain returns late Sunday
Better rain and storm chances are expected to return late Sunday into Monday, coinciding with the opening of the State Fair of Texas, though above-normal temperatures will persist through October.
The headline
One inch of rain at DFW Airport broke a dry streak, but weeks of sustained rainfall are needed to meaningfully address the regional drought.
