Final night in Dallas

Republicans closed out their first ever midterm convention in Dallas on Thursday. Dan Patrick was among the first Texans to take the stage on night two.
Opening with the Alamo

Patrick, a Trump ally who led the president's religious liberty commission, built the top of his speech around the Alamo and Texas history.
Darkness versus light

He told the crowd the midterms are not really about politics. The flag, he said, belongs to one side and not the other.
“That flag does not stand for communism or socialism.”
Twelve million newcomers

Patrick said 12 million people have moved to Texas from Democrat-led states over the past two decades, and credited state tax and business policy for pulling in billions in investment.
“Our pro-business, pro-tax policies in Texas are attracting billions of dollars in investment.”
California, Russia, or China

His warning to voters was that Democrats want Texas remade in the image of places nobody in the room admired.
Finish it in November

Patrick closed by telling the crowd their ballot is not about a candidate. It is about themselves, their family, and the flag.
“You started a fight, and the Republicans are going to finish it in November.”
What to remember
Patrick's pitch was not policy detail but identity: vote for your family, your flag, and Texas as the model the rest of the country should copy.
