Seven face federal charges
Federal officials say seven people in North Texas were taken into custody or surrendered over alleged illegal voting in recent general elections.
Most cases involve 2024
Six suspects are accused of illegal voting tied to the 2024 general election. One case involves the 2018 general election.
Non-citizens named
Officials said the suspects are from Nigeria, Mexico, India, and the Democratic Republic of the Congo. Six are lawful U.S. residents, but not citizens.
Some ballots were rejected
Two federal defendants cast provisional ballots that were not counted. Six of the cases involved votes in Tarrant County.
Local charges added
Tarrant County prosecutors charged two more people with voter fraud, though officials said they had not yet been taken into custody.
Officials deny politics
U.S. Attorney Ryan Raybould said investigators were focused on whether someone voted illegally, not which candidate they supported.
“We don't care who that person voted for. That's not our focus.”
