Traffic stop triggers ICE detention

Lourdes Coronado was pulled over May 8 in Flower Mound for a suspended license and no registration. ICE detained her after the traffic stop, saying she is in the country illegally.
30 years in US, no criminal record
Coronado's family says she has lived in the United States for more than 30 years and had just been approved for a work permit when she was detained. She has no criminal history.
“She had no criminal history. She wasn't doing anything wrong.”
Bond denied, removal ordered
An immigration judge denied Coronado's bond request in July, calling her a flight risk. On September 8, the judge ordered her removed to Mexico.
Family racing against appeal deadline

Coronado has until October 2 to appeal the removal order. Her daughter Karen Gonzalez is working to find and pay an attorney before the deadline.
Daughter describes emotional toll
Karen Gonzalez hasn't seen her mother in five months. She says her brother was deported in 2019, making Coronado her only immediate family left in the United States.
“We all bleed the same. We breathe the same air, you know. She is a walking human being. She is not just a number.”
