In brief

A call just before midnight

A call just before midnight

Dallas police responded at 11:53 p.m. Monday to a report of a pedestrian struck on eastbound Interstate 20 near Wheatland Road, in the Red Bird area.

Found down in the road

Officers arrived to find an adult woman lying in the roadway. Dallas Fire-Rescue reached the scene and pronounced her dead there.

The driver stayed

A minivan hit her. The driver stopped right after the impact and is cooperating fully with investigators, according to police.

He could not avoid her

The driver told police he was heading east on I-20 when he came upon the woman already in the middle of the roadway and had no way to miss her.

“he encountered the woman in the roadway and was unable to avoid hitting her”

Ruled pedestrian error

The preliminary investigation points to pedestrian error rather than driver fault. Police say no criminal charges are expected against the driver.

“the incident appears to be a case of pedestrian error”

Her name is still unknown
