Man stabbed in heart at Bishop Arts

Abraham Herrera, 22, was stabbed outside Dos Amigos restaurant early Saturday morning in the Bishop Arts neighborhood. He's now in a medically induced coma at Methodist Hospital in Oak Cliff.

He stepped in to help his girlfriend

Herrera's family says he defended his girlfriend after she was insulted and hit in the parking lot. He thought it would be a fistfight but was stabbed in the chest instead.

“He didn't know he was stabbed. It's very obvious in the video footage he thought again that they was just fighting.”

Suspect fled the scene

Police say a verbal argument inside Dos Amigos escalated into a fight. Bouncers threw everyone out, and the stabbing happened outside. The suspect remains at large with no description released.

Family describes him as big-hearted

Herrera's aunt Brenda Trevino says he was the person everyone in the family looked up to, full of life and generosity. She called the attacker a coward for what he did.

“He's a coward for what he did. This didn't have to turn out the way it did.”

Police seek video and witnesses

Dallas police are asking anyone with video footage from outside Dos Amigos to contact Detective Darren Burch. Herrera's family is also pleading for prayers and public help.

“We are pleading to anyone that was present or that has video.”
