PlayStation hacker quits PS5 Linux
Andy 'TheFlow0' Nguyen, who created the first Vita kernel exploit, is abandoning the PS5 Linux project after months of work. He planned to finish PS5 Pro support and release in 2027.
“After pouring my heart and months of my life into it, it's all down the sink.”
AI coders are ruining open-source
Nguyen says the scene shifted from talented researchers to 'a bunch of noobs using LLMs' writing code they don't understand. The RPCS3 emulator recently banned these 'vibe coders' for the same reason.
“the scene used to be a group of highly talented researchers, but now it is just a bunch of noobs using LLMs”
Someone reported the exploit to Sony

AI-using developers discovered a hypervisor bug and reported it to Sony for a bounty instead of letting the project mature. Nguyen had asked them to wait until GTA 6 released so people could legally buy it first.
“Slop kiddies found the only hypervisor bug left and decided to report to Sony”
PS5 Linux is now effectively dead
The bug report likely prevents PS5 Linux from working on newer OS versions. The last supported version is 2.5, which only works on PS5 Phat and Slim consoles running firmware 3.00 to 7.61.
What PS5 Linux actually did
The project let players dual-boot their PS5 consoles and play PC games on them, essentially turning every console into a Steam Machine. It was a remarkable technical achievement.
In short
Open-source projects are losing experienced developers because newcomers using AI to write code they don't understand are degrading project quality and making poor decisions.
