Defeated candidate flees to US
Flávio Bolsonaro, the PL candidate defeated in Sunday's election, fled Brazil and proclaimed himself the country's rightful president from a hideout in the United States.
Lula won by massive margin
Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva received four point four million more votes than Flávio, a margin so large it could not have been erased by two additional voting hours a court authorized.
Repeating father's false claims
Flávio is following the same path his father Jair took after losing reelection four years ago, making inflammatory rhetoric about election fraud despite no evidence of wrongdoing.
Tactical retreat then resumed attacks
On Monday, October twenty-sixth, Flávio stopped challenging the election's legitimacy, but resumed authoritarian tirades as soon as he reached American soil under Donald Trump's protection.
Cowardice forfeits opposition leadership
By fleeing hours after receiving nearly sixty million votes, Flávio forfeited his chance to lead the opposition in the next election cycle, abandoning the role his father failed to hold.
The big picture
Flávio Bolsonaro fled Brazil after losing Sunday's election and proclaimed himself president from the US, repeating debunked fraud claims his father used after his own defeat.
