Separatist leader claims victory before vote
Keith Wilson, co-chair of Let Alberta Decide, told supporters Saturday that the independence movement had already won regardless of Monday's outcome by making separation a major political issue.
“Regardless of what happens on Monday, we've already won.”
Monday's vote is not direct independence referendum
Albertans will decide whether to remain a province or begin the legal process toward a future referendum on separation, not vote directly on independence itself.
Movement drew pandemic protesters and convoy supporters

The independence movement attracted activists opposed to COVID-19 vaccine mandates and supporters of the two thousand twenty-two trucker convoy that paralyzed downtown Ottawa. Wilson was a lead lawyer for the protest.
Wilson rejects calls to abandon separatism if defeated
Wilson rejected former Alberta Premier Jason Kenney's suggestion that separatists should abandon their cause if they fail to win a majority Monday, saying the movement will build on its successes.
“We are going to build on our successes, build on our relationships.”
