FBI agent sought Musk investigation

An FBI agent named Kevin Gounaud pushed for a criminal case against Elon Musk in February 2025 over his use of X to ask government employees what they accomplished at work.
Gounaud compared Musk to Clinton
Gounaud claimed Musk's use of the social media platform for government purposes was similar to Hillary Clinton's private email server, since Musk profits from X through advertising.
“His use of twitter in this and other instances is conceptually similar to Hillary Clinton's misuse of a private email server for government business.”
Agent repeatedly sought Trump probe role
FBI agent Walter Giardina emailed at least seven times over four weeks starting in January 2017 asking to be assigned to Crossfire Hurricane, the bureau's Russia investigation into Trump's campaign.
Giardina was fired for weaponization

Giardina was fired by FBI Director Kash Patel in August 2025 over accusations of political weaponization. He had corresponded with agent Timothy Thibault about the Trump investigation.
Thibault violated Hatch Act, got warning
Timothy Thibault reshared a post calling Trump psychologically broken. The Office of Special Counsel found he violated the Hatch Act in January 2024 but only issued a warning letter.
Grassley calls it worse than Watergate

Senate Judiciary Committee Chair Chuck Grassley released the documents and said the FBI's actions were worse than Watergate, describing them as evil operations by the Deep State against Trump.
“The previous Democrat administrations under Obama and Biden conducted secret, insidious and downright evil operations that almost took down our government.”
Mueller investigation found no conspiracy
Crossfire Hurricane was the FBI's 2016 counterintelligence investigation into whether Trump's campaign coordinated with Russia. Special Counsel Robert Mueller's investigation did not establish a criminal conspiracy.
