In brief
A 62-year-old Texas engineer beloved by Fox News hosts was killed on a park bench minutes after visiting his mother. Andrew Wimsatt's killing turned a private act of kindness into a public argument about who gets released and who pays for it. Originally reported by Fox News.
Killed on a park bench

Andrew James Wimsatt, 62, an Austin engineer, was stabbed from behind in a Round Rock park on Sept. 7. Authorities call it a random attack.
Minutes after seeing his mother

He had just visited his mom at a nearby nursing home. He sat down around 11 a.m. A few minutes later a man grabbed him from behind.
The whole thing was filmed

Surveillance video captured the stabbing. Wimsatt struggled but could not push the attacker off. The suspect wiped blood on his shirt and walked away.
A life bigger than the headline
Wimsatt had a Ph.D. in civil engineering, worked at the Texas A&M Transportation Institute, and is credited as an executive producer on a Penn Jillette film.
The fan who became a friend
Kat Timpf said he supported her through career pile-ons and they had lunch in Fort Worth in June. She expected to see him at a Nevada show this month.
“Whenever the rest of the internet was making me feel hopeless about the state of the world, I could always count on a message from Andrew”
Gutfeld's disbelief
Wimsatt found Greg Gutfeld through "Red Eye," clipped segments, and showed up at live events. Gutfeld said he assumed there was an angle. There wasn't.
“He did stuff for people because he enjoyed being of service”
An arrest and a strange alibi

Deputies arrested Benedict Chinedu Ogbodiegwu, 26, and say they recovered bloody clothes, prints and the weapon. Shown the video, he claimed he had an unnamed twin.
Out of jail since June
Ogbodiegwu has a Williamson County record going back to 2017, with two arrests this year for theft and fake ID. He was jailed January to April and released June 9.
Who answers for this
He is held on $1 million bond with a pre-indictment docket call Oct. 8. Gutfeld wants accountability for everyone who left the suspect free.
“He was a kind, generous man, nearly beheaded in a park on a sunny morning, for no reason, just because”
