IREN buys Mirantis to power NVIDIA AI deals
The $500 million acquisition gives the neocloud provider software to orchestrate massive GPU deployments across its datacenters.
In brief
The $500 million acquisition gives the neocloud provider software to orchestrate massive GPU deployments across its datacenters. IREN's $500 million Mirantis acquisition provides GPU orchestration software critical for executing multi-billion dollar NVIDIA deployment deals. Originally reported by Futuriom.
IREN closes Mirantis acquisition
Alternative cloud provider IREN completed its all-stock purchase of software maker Mirantis for over $500 million. The deal positions IREN for major deployments with NVIDIA.
Multi-tenancy for GPU efficiency
The purchase lets IREN offer multi-tenancy solutions that orchestrate GPUs to fit customer demands for efficient configurations. Other neoclouds like Nscale are making similar moves.
k0rdent powers the platform
Mirantis makes k0rdent, an open-source Kubernetes environment that supports hard multi-tenancy. It lets IREN secure multiple customers individually in their own GPU slices.
Deep NVIDIA integration built in
k0rdent integrates with NVIDIA Run:ai orchestration, NVIDIA Infra Controller, and NVIDIA DSX OS. Mirantis is a partner in NVIDIA's AI Cloud-Ready Validated ISV initiative.
5 gigawatts of AI systems
IREN has a deal with NVIDIA to deploy up to 5 GW of DSX-based AI systems. The deployment centers on a massive 2-GW campus in Sweetwater, Texas.
NVIDIA's $2.1 billion option
NVIDIA has a five-year right to buy up to 30 million IREN shares at $70 each, totaling up to $2.1 billion. Mirantis orchestration could incentivize activating this option.
Blackwell deployment in Childress
IREN signed a 5-year, $3.4-billion contract with NVIDIA to deploy 60-MW of air-cooled Blackwell GPUs in Childress, Texas. The project ramps in early 2027.
Massive infrastructure expansion
IREN operates six large datacenters representing about 5 GW across the U.S., Canada, and Australia. By March, it had ordered or installed up to 150,000 GPUs.
Heavy dependence on NVIDIA
IREN has $3.1 billion in annual recurring revenue but $3.5 billion in planned capex funded by $9.3 billion in financing. Much of its future depends on NVIDIA following through.
The main idea
IREN's $500 million Mirantis acquisition provides GPU orchestration software critical for executing multi-billion dollar NVIDIA deployment deals.
