Alabama punishes fan

Alabama said it took action against a fan who hit Georgia football player Raylen Wilson after the Dawgs' 20-17 win over Bama.

“Alabama has identified and taken appropriate action against the individual involved in videos circulating on social media following Saturday night's football game”

Fan approached Wilson

The fan walked down rows of seats to get to the final row before the field where Wilson thought he was a Georgia fan celebrating.

Wilson's reaction

Wilson reacted to the fan by slapping him twice and saying 'let's go boy, get the f*&^ out of here'.

Georgia coach response

Georgia coach Kirby Smart said Wilson made good decisions but the fan's behavior was disappointing and not condoned by either team.

“You want people to make good decisions and do things the right way, and Raylen certainly did there”

Historical context

Only three SEC games in this century had noticeable garbage thrown on the field during or after a UGA game.

Two years ago Texas fans poured trash on the field causing a dangerous situation that led to a game reversal.

SEC statement

The SEC said debris thrown on the field is unacceptable and Texas was fined $250,000.

“While the original evaluation and assessment of the penalty was not properly executed, it is unacceptable to have debris thrown on the field at any time”

Alabama's stance

Alabama is gathering facts around the fan's behavior and will not tolerate such conduct.

“We are disappointed by the unacceptable behavior exhibited by some of the game's attendees Saturday night and are in the process of gathering information”
