A Chrome extension that finds Greg on Hacker News
A tiny extension that badges every Hacker News story, link and comment belonging to one specific person.
In brief
A tiny extension that badges every Hacker News story, link and comment belonging to one specific person. The best small software does one absurdly narrow thing perfectly, with no build step and no dependencies. Originally reported by GitHub.
One extension, one Greg
Is It Greg is a Chrome extension that highlights Hacker News submissions linking to greg.technology or any subdomain, plus anything posted by gregsadetsky himself.
An orange badge with a face

Every match gets a small orange Greg badge carrying his photo, so you can spot him while scrolling the front page like any other story.
“Matches get a small orange Greg badge (with his face on it)”
Comments count too
It does not stop at submissions. Greg's comments get flagged in threads, and hovering any badge explains why that item was matched.
He dances in the corner
When at least one Greg is on the page, he appears dancing in the bottom-right with a running tally. Click him and more Gregs fly across the screen.
“Click him and he throws more Gregs across the screen.”
The count is a button
That little orange number is not decoration. Click it to jump straight to the next Greg sighting on the page.
“The little orange count is its own button”
Nothing to build
Open chrome://extensions, turn on Developer mode, load unpacked. No build step, no dependencies, and no permissions beyond news.ycombinator.com.
“No build step, no dependencies, no permissions beyond running on news.ycombinator.com.”
The takeaway
The best small software does one absurdly narrow thing perfectly, with no build step and no dependencies.
