Gemini lands on your Windows desktop
Google put Gemini one keyboard shortcut away from whatever you are already working on.
In brief
Google put Gemini one keyboard shortcut away from whatever you are already working on. Alt + Space opens Gemini on top of your current window, so you can ask something and get straight back to work. Originally reported by Google.
Gemini comes to Windows
Google launched a desktop Gemini app for Windows 10 and 11, available globally today at gemini.google/desktop.
“Today, we're launching the Gemini app for Windows.”
Alt + Space opens it
Press Alt + Space and Gemini appears over whatever you are doing. Fact-check a document or get title ideas, then drop back into the work.
“Press Alt + Space on your PC at any time to open Gemini over your active work.”
A workspace for deep work
The app carries everything Gemini already does, including handing multi-step jobs to Gemini Spark, the 24/7 personal agent.
It reads your Google apps
Ask for a project summary and Gemini pulls the details straight from Gmail and Google Drive instead of making you paste them in.
Images and video too
Generate custom images with Nano Banana for a presentation, or direct a video with Gemini Omni, without leaving the desktop app.
“Bring creative concepts to life directly from your desktop.”
Light enough to leave open
Google says the app runs quietly in the background without slowing the PC, and more native desktop features are coming.
“Lightweight and quiet, the app runs without slowing down your PC.”
The bottom line
Alt + Space opens Gemini on top of your current window, so you can ask something and get straight back to work.
