Megos sends Australian mega-roof

German climber Alex Megos repeated Rapture of the Deep, a 5.15a roof route in Cheesedale, Australia. Ryan Sklenica established it just months ago with a dramatic mid-route jump.
The route demands everything
Rapture of the Deep starts on another 5.13d route, then flows into a V11/12 boulder problem. The crux is an all-out pogo jump to hit a flat sloper at full speed, followed by a final heartbreaking move at the lip.

Megos nearly lost it mid-jump
During his ascent, Megos experienced a massive foot slip right before launching the jump. He managed to hold on with one arm, reset his feet, and still sent the route.
“I just managed to hold on with one arm, put my feet back on the wall, did the jump and sent the route”
Sklenica's third 5.15a in the area
Ryan Sklenica established Rapture of the Deep in late July, making it his third 5.15a first ascent in Cheesedale. The prolific Australian climber has put up some of the country's hardest routes.
Megos is a world-class problem solver
Megos has established two 5.15c routes in Europe and recently onsighted a 5.14c. In 2024, he put up multiple V14 boulder problems in Norway and Germany, showing mastery across disciplines.
The short version
Megos successfully repeated a cutting-edge Australian route by trusting his strengths on a technical, overhanging problem.
