“I put a lot of work into training for this route. None of the moves are particularly hard, but it’s a very sustained route, with long sections of punchy, difficult climbing. The last boulder in particular gave me quite a bit of trouble. I fell at the top eight times before punching through. Took quite a bit more effort than The Crew 5.14c.”
Route Details
Shadowboxing was first climbed by Jonathan Siegrist in 2011 and graded 5.14d by Jon Cardwell in 2015.
Climbing Context
Jonathan Siegrist noted the route's difficulty and knee bar mid-crux, suggesting 5.14d is accurate for Colorado's stiff grades.
“Climbing on the route fresh and having the opportunity to think over the route’s difficulty, in addition to the unfortunate new discovery of a knee bar mid-crux has lead me to believe that 14c is a more accurate suggestion. Colorado, and certainly Rifle, have a reputation for stiff grades that I feel I should uphold. Like I’ve mentioned previously, I think that the best thing we can do with grades is take them lightly, remain honest and strive to keep consistency within an area.”
