Jorge Díaz-Rullo sends Hazel Grace Sit

Spanish climber finally sends one of Switzerland's most famous boulders after his longest project yet.

In brief

Spanish climber finally sends one of Switzerland's most famous boulders after his longest project yet. Díaz-Rullo spent more time on Hazel Grace Sit than any other boulder, grading it V15/16 due to the extreme difficulty of managing variable alpine conditions. Originally reported by Gripped Magazine.

Spanish climber sends alpine classic

Jorge Díaz-Rullo has climbed Hazel Grace Sit V15/16, one of Switzerland's most famous boulders in the Gottardo Pass. He called it the boulder he has spent the most time on.

“An honour to climb such a beautiful line in Gottardpass, with incredible rock and holds of exceptional quality.”

Conditions made it brutally hard

Every session felt different due to alpine weather. Díaz-Rullo nearly sent on day three but then struggled to hold the holds until the final day when conditions aligned perfectly.

“Every session felt different. On my 3rd day, I already fell in the final section.”

Grading sits between two levels

Grading sits between two levels

Díaz-Rullo graded it V15/16 because it felt harder and more complex than other V15s he has climbed, but not quite a true V16. Previous ascensionists also disagreed on the grade.

“Still unsure about the grade.. [V15] or [V16]? Or both?”

Cameroni created it in 2021

Giuliano Cameroni established Hazel Grace Sit as a harder variation of Hazel Grace V14 from 2017. It adds a hard V12 sequence to the original line. Cameroni took roughly 30 sessions for the first ascent.

Díaz-Rullo crushing hard boulders

He sent Stefano Ghisolfi's P.I.G. V15 ten days ago and flashed Jaro V13 weeks earlier. This summer he also ticked Andularia V15 and Hazel Grace V14 in just days.

His hardest send remains V16

His hardest send remains V16

Díaz-Rullo's hardest boulder is Muerte por Asfixia V16 in La Pedriza, Spain, which he sent two years ago. His recent ascents show he remains one of the world's top boulderers.

The takeaway

Díaz-Rullo spent more time on Hazel Grace Sit than any other boulder, grading it V15/16 due to the extreme difficulty of managing variable alpine conditions.
