Gibson and Baggs unveil revolutionary acoustic pickup system
The HiFi DNA system uses dual preamps to deliver what its makers call the most natural live acoustic tone ever achieved.
In brief
The HiFi DNA system uses dual preamps to deliver what its makers call the most natural live acoustic tone ever achieved. Dual Class A preamps treat each sensor as its own studio channel, preserving articulation and preventing signal interference for unprecedented acoustic realism. Originally reported by Guitar World.
Gibson teams up with Baggs

Gibson is collaborating with Baggs (formerly LR Baggs) on a new acoustic pickup system called HiFi DNA. They claim it delivers the most natural, studio-grade live tone ever from an acoustic guitar.

Dual preamps keep signals pure
The system uses dual Class A preamp architecture, treating each sensor as its own studio channel. Each sensor runs through its own custom-voiced preamp before signals are blended.
New sensor design reacts holistically
The sensor platform is lighter, larger, and more responsive than previous formats. It's designed to react to the guitar as a whole, making you feel like you're inside the instrument.
Why separate preamps matter

Combining two sensors before amplification makes them interfere with each other, creating muddy sound. Separating them with individual preamps preserves every detail and keeps signals pristine.
“If you combine two mic diaphragms, or two piezos, before amplification, they tug on each other, and the sound can get muddy.”
Like a pair of choir mics
The two sensors work like choir mics, each hearing a different part of the instrument. You get ambiance without losing attack, and space without losing touch.

Available now in Gibson acoustics
The HiFi DNA system is currently exclusive to Gibson acoustic guitars like the SJ-200, J-45, and Hummingbird variants. Aftermarket systems will be available later.
The main idea
Dual Class A preamps treat each sensor as its own studio channel, preserving articulation and preventing signal interference for unprecedented acoustic realism.
