Life expectancy doubled, quality lags
Neurologist Conrado Estol told LA NACION that life expectancy doubled in the last century, but the quality of those additional years remains unresolved.
Abandon old ideas of old age
Estol said society must abandon the traditional notion of third age because human biology is experiencing an unprecedented transition.
“Estamos experimentando una transición sin precedentes”
Early education cuts dementia risk

Estol cited The Lancet publications linking early cognitive development to better brain health in the future, saying early education reduces dementia risk significantly.
“La educación temprana reduce un porcentaje importante del riesgo de llegar a tener demencia”
Seven pillars of healthy aging
Estol listed the seven pillars as stress control, maintaining social bonds, correct sleep, zero cigarettes, moderate alcohol, healthy nutrition and exercise.
“Los siete pilares son: controlar el estrés, mantener tus vínculos sociales, dormir de forma correcta, cero cigarrillo, moderar el alcohol, nutrición sana y ejercicio”
Stay active, not passive in retirement
Estol warned against early retirement stigma and passivity, noting most successful businesses are started by people over sixty years old.
“No tenés que decir, tengo 75, a ver qué hago, me pongo a ver telenovelas toda la tarde. No. Tenés que mantenerte activo”
Chronological age is just a number
Estol said chronological age matters less than actual condition, noting some thirty year olds could be considered old by traditional terms.
“¿Qué importa el número que corresponde a tu edad cronológica? Hay gente de 30 que podría decir que es vieja”
Start managing aging from age thirty
Estol concluded that aging is a continuous process managed from age thirty onwards, prioritizing metabolic and cardiovascular health with professional support throughout.
“Hasta los 30 envejecemos muy lentamente, y poco. La pendiente de la caída es mínima, después se va acentuando, pero es desde muy joven, no a los 75”
The main idea
Neurologist Conrado Estol warns that society must abandon traditional notions of old age and adopt seven health pillars to achieve quality longevity.
