Arizona mother Erin Hume described how her boyfriend stabbed her 22 times after becoming abusive over time.

“He may have thought that stabbing me 22 times would be the end of my story, instead I am standing here today, alive, speaking for myself, speaking for my children, and refusing to let what he did become the definition of who I am.”

Tyler Riddle

34-year-old Tyler Riddle pleaded guilty to aggravated assault and two counts of child abuse after the attack.

August 2025 Attack

Hume was stabbed 22 times at home by Riddle who 'Ubered' to her house after she told him to be quiet.

Children Injured

Hume's two children were injured trying to protect her from Riddle and one called 911 to report her bleeding.

“that his mother was bleeding and that her boyfriend … was in their home”

Riddle's Drug Use

Riddle was using drugs including psychedelics the night he attacked Hume.

“I would be dead if he didn't call the police, like 100%”

Medical Findings

Hume was found covered in blood with multiple stab wounds including a laceration across her throat.

Children's Witness

Hume's children told police they were woken up by screaming and saw Riddle punching their mother.

Sentencing

Riddle was sentenced to 15 years in prison after pleading guilty to aggravated assault and two counts of child abuse.

County Attorney

Maricopa County Attorney Rachel Mitchell praised the children's bravery and police response for Hume's survival.

“Thanks to the bravery of her kids and the quick response by the Mesa police officers who arrived at the scene, this victim survived her attack and can find a measure of peace knowing this defendant has been held accountable.”

Legal Outcome
