Kevon Lawless, 29, received 35 years in prison after pleading guilty to murder in the deaths of 21-year-old Brandon Waddles and his 3-year-old daughter, Trinity Randolph.
Previous conviction overturned
Lawless had been sentenced to life without parole in 2022 but the Kentucky Supreme Court overturned that conviction in 2024 after finding a mistrial should have been granted due to a judge arresting a witness…
Murder plan hatched
On Aug. 13, 2020, Lawless and Evan Ross hatched a plan to set up and murder Waddles using Lawless' girlfriend as a fake date.
Fake date setup
Lawless' girlfriend reached out to Waddles to feign interest in starting a relationship, while Ross drove Lawless to Waddles' home on Kahlert Avenue in Louisville, Kentucky.
Shooting occurs
When the woman asked Waddles to come outside, Lawless jumped out of Ross' Chrysler 200 and fired 11 shots at Waddles.
Waddles found dead
Waddles was on the floor in a hallway pool of blood, shot six times, and pronounced dead by police.
Trinity in dollhouse
Trinity, the 3-year-old, was playing in a 'Frozen' dollhouse when she was shot in the back of the neck.
Trinity found dead
Despite officers' attempts to save her, Trinity was pronounced dead after being shot in the back of the neck.
Lawless covers tracks
Lawless texted his girlfriend 'we gotta lay low' less than two hours after the shooting and later wrote 'your courage better be strong'.
Ross arrested
Ross was arrested and later sentenced to 10 years in prison for facilitating the murders and burglary in exchange for a five-year probated sentence.
Ross's false testimony
Ross claimed he didn't hear any gunshots during the shooting, testimony the judge later called 'a ridiculous lie' that prompted audible laughter from jurors.
Perjury charge
Ross's false testimony led to a perjury charge against him and landed Lawless' case before the Kentucky Supreme Court.
Jefferson County Attorney
Jefferson County Commonwealth's Attorney Gerina Whethers stated Lawless 'fully admitted to his responsibility' for the senseless killing of a father and his three-year-old daughter.
Justice after six years
Whethers said after six years since their deaths, 'we have justice for Brandon Waddles and Trinity Randolph'.
