In brief
A short trip with a long list of meetings: five leaders, a mufti, and a stop in the Maldives. Malaysia is using the BRICS summit as a hub for one-on-one diplomacy with Russia, Iran, India, Kazakhstan and Ethiopia, then extending the trip to the Maldives. Originally reported by Malay Mail.
Straight from Sabah to Delhi

Anwar wrapped up a working visit to Sabah on September 11 and left the same day for New Delhi and the 18th BRICS Leaders' Summit.
“My delegation and I have departed for New Delhi, India to attend the 18th BRICS Leaders' Summit.”
Five leaders, one trip
He is set to meet India's prime minister, the presidents of Russia, Iran and Kazakhstan, and Ethiopia's prime minister on the sidelines.
Why the sidelines matter
BRICS puts leaders Malaysia rarely sees in one building. The bilateral meetings, not the summit sessions, are where the trip earns its keep.
A detour to Keralam
Anwar will travel to Keralam to meet the Grand Mufti of India, with talks framed around community development, education and religious affairs.
“exchange views on community development, education and religious affairs”
Then on to Male
After India, he heads to the Maldives for an official visit at the invitation of President Mohamed Muizzu.
The stated test
Anwar set his own measure for the trip in a Facebook post: whether it brings something concrete home.
“May everything go smoothly and may this visit bring tangible benefits to the people and the country.”
The short version
Malaysia is using the BRICS summit as a hub for one-on-one diplomacy with Russia, Iran, India, Kazakhstan and Ethiopia, then extending the trip to the Maldives.
