In brief
A gala dinner chat in New Delhi turned into a state visit, and a decade-old promise Kuala Lumpur and Cairo still owe each other. Malaysia and Egypt agreed in 2024 to become strategic partners. El-Sisi's visit next month is where that agreement either gets real or stays on paper. Originally reported by Malay Mail.
Cairo is coming to KL
Anwar Ibrahim said on social media that Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi will make an official visit to Malaysia next month. He gave no dates and no agenda.
“Insya-Allah, several matters concerning Malaysia-Egypt relations will be discussed in greater depth”
It started at a dinner

El-Sisi was one of the leaders Anwar met on the sidelines of a gala dinner tied to the 18th Brics Leaders' Summit in New Delhi. Sideline talks, real outcome.
The 2024 promise
Malaysia and Egypt agreed two years ago to work towards lifting ties to a strategic partnership. That upgrade is still pending, and it is what the visit is built around.
Brics is the backdrop
Anwar landed in New Delhi a day earlier for the summit, which wraps up today. The bilateral meetings around it are doing as much work as the summit itself.
Next stop, Keralam

After the summit Anwar heads to Keralam, the southern Indian state on the Malabar Coast that was officially renamed from Kerala. It is his second official India trip as PM.
Then the Maldives
He departs for the Maldives on September 14, closing a three-country stretch that packs Brics, India and an Indian Ocean neighbour into a few days.
The headline
Malaysia and Egypt agreed in 2024 to become strategic partners. El-Sisi's visit next month is where that agreement either gets real or stays on paper.
