RM500 flight aid for new students
Malaysia's government is giving 7,095 new students RM500 each to help pay for domestic flights when traveling between Peninsular Malaysia, Sabah, Sarawak, and Labuan for their studies.
“This will benefit 7,095 students who need to fly between Peninsular Malaysia, Sabah, Sarawak, and the Federal Territory of Labuan to begin their studies.”
Who qualifies for the assistance
The aid applies to new students enrolling in public universities, polytechnics, and community colleges for the September or October 2026 intake who need to fly between regions.
Anwar announces during Malaysia Day

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim revealed the RM500 assistance during the national-level Malaysia Day 2026 celebration at the Borneo Convention Centre Kuching.
Part of broader relief efforts
The student flight aid is one of several measures to ease financial burdens on Malaysians, alongside improvements to the BUDI Madani Diesel initiative and restructured special grants for Sarawak.
Sarawak grant increased significantly
Sarawak's interim special grant has been raised to RM1.5 billion this year, more than double the previous RM600 million allocation.
“Sarawak's interim special grant would be increased to RM1.5 billion this year, up from RM600 million previously.”
Working on sustainable grant formula
The Federal Government is engaging with Sabah and Sarawak state governments to develop a long-term sustainable formula for determining annual Special Grant rates.
What it means
New students from public universities, polytechnics, and community colleges can claim RM500 toward domestic flights when relocating for studies in September or October 2026.
