Nine years and 12 strokes
A 20-year-old man in Singapore was sentenced today to nine years' jail and 12 strokes of the cane for sexual offences against three girls aged 13 and 14.
What he pleaded to
He admitted one count of rape and two counts of sexually penetrating a minor. Another rape charge and a further penetration charge were taken into account at sentencing.
Met on TikTok at 13
He was about 17 when he met the first girl on TikTok in September 2023. Court documents say he raped her after she asked him to stop during intercourse.
The first report, then nothing
She filed a police report on October 31, 2023, and he gave a statement to the authorities. He was not arrested.
A second girl, a second statement
In December 2023 he met a 14-year-old at a gathering and raped her at the staircase landing of a block of flats. Her father found their messages, police were alerted, and he gave another statement.
Arrested after the third
In June 2024, months after turning 18, he had sex with a third 14-year-old met through Instagram. She reported it three days later and he was arrested the same day.
Names sealed by the court
A gag order blocks identification of the man and all three victims, so the case is public while everyone in it stays anonymous.
