Two deaths, one day

Two deaths, one day

Malaysia's Fire and Rescue Department confirmed two men found dead on September 11, in unrelated incidents hundreds of kilometres apart.

“Two men were found dead in separate incidents in Penang and Perak today”

A body in the drain

Ooi Chai Siang, 37, was found in a drain about 1.5 metres deep near SMK Tun Hussein Onn in Taman Kelisa Emas, Butterworth.

The call at 12.10pm

Police rang the Penang fire department asking for help to retrieve the body. A crew from the Perai station drove out and found him where the caller said.

“A team from the Perai Fire and Rescue Station (BBP) proceeded to the location and, upon arrival, found a man in the drain.”

Full protective gear

The operation commander ordered firefighters into full PPE before lifting him out. The body went to police, then to hospital for a post-mortem.

He jumped for his boat

In Perak, a 38-year-old man went into Sungai Perak at about 5pm the previous day after his boat drifted from a fish cage. His nephew tried to reach him and could not.

Thirty searchers, six kilometres

The search resumed at dawn with 30 personnel, a K9 unit and a water rescue team covering a six kilometre stretch of river.

Found four kilometres down

At 2pm the water rescue team spotted him floating, four kilometres from where he jumped at Batu 18, Kampung Kuchai. Both cases are now with police pending post-mortems.

“The victim's body was subsequently found floating by the PPDA team and brought ashore before being handed over to the police”

The one thing

Shallow water kills too. A 1.5 metre drain and a river current both ended in a body handed to police.
