Umno's youth wing knocked on 50,000 new doors

Umno's youth training school sent 150 young organisers into two state elections to find first-time voters before anyone else did.

In brief

Umno's youth training school sent 150 young organisers into two state elections to find first-time voters before anyone else did. Umno is betting that face-to-face contact with first-time voters, done between elections rather than during them, is what rebuilds the party. Originally reported by Malay Mail.

Fifty thousand first-timers

Young leaders from the Umno Patriotic School reached nearly 50,000 first-time voters during the Johor and Negeri Sembilan state elections, in person and online.

A hundred in Johor

A hundred in Johor

Vice-president Wan Rosdy Wan Ismail said 100 'Patriots' were deployed across 50 state constituencies in Johor to back the Barisan Nasional machinery.

The Negeri Sembilan numbers

Fifty Patriots worked 25 constituencies there, meeting 13,267 voters face to face and another 7,276 online.

Not sitting at the back

Wan Rosdy framed these youths as field workers rather than hall-fillers, motivated by belief in the party rather than by position.

“These SPU youths do not just sit in the back (of the hall). They go down to the field because they believe in the Umno struggle.”

Two hundred and counting

The school opened in January 2025 and has run five series, producing more than 200 young leaders. A sixth series is coming, with tighter selection.

Four BLUE approaches

Umno president Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi delivers his closing speech at the 2026 Umno General Assembly, where he warned that removing Umno from the unity go

Wan Rosdy proposed four ways to turn Zahid's Blue Malaysia Agenda into grassroots action, starting with building ties with people outside election season.

Service, then trust

The second approach binds voters through service: showing up, solving actual problems, and earning trust rather than asking for it at the ballot box.

Changing how Umno reads

Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi (second row, fourth left) and other party leaders give a ‘thumbs-up’ at the close of the Umno general assembly in Kuala Lumpur on

The last two approaches are winning hearts through visible work and plain language, and shifting public perception of the party itself.

What to remember

Umno is betting that face-to-face contact with first-time voters, done between elections rather than during them, is what rebuilds the party.
