Why Muhyiddin still faces trial
Malaysia’s AGC dropped four charges, but says three Jana Wibawa corruption counts against Muhyiddin will proceed.
In brief
Malaysia’s AGC dropped four charges, but says three Jana Wibawa corruption counts against Muhyiddin will proceed. The dropped charges narrow the case, but do not clear Muhyiddin of the remaining Jana Wibawa allegations. Originally reported by Malay Mail.
Four charges dropped

The AGC will not proceed with four charges tied to Bukhary Equity Sdn Bhd, after reviewing the evidence and risks to the wider case.
Not a clean slate
The AGC said the decision should not be read as proof the transactions never happened, or that the charges had no basis when filed.
“should not be interpreted as a finding that the transactions... did not take place”
Evidence drove the call
Prosecutors said they weighed admissibility, witness credibility and the effect of these charges on other proceedings before changing course.
Trial risk mattered
The AGC said pressing ahead could weaken its strategy and evidence in the charges still facing Muhyiddin.
“posed a real risk of litigation”
Prosecution sets its limit
The AGC said its job is not to defend every charge at any cost, but to pursue charges that can stand up in court.
“not to defend a particular charge at all costs”
High Court acquits
Judge Noor Ruwena Md Nurdin discharged and acquitted Muhyiddin on one abuse of power charge and three money laundering charges involving RM200 million.
Three charges remain
Muhyiddin still faces three charges under the MACC Act over alleged RM25.3 million bribes for Bersatu linked to the Jana Wibawa project.
Case moves forward
The remaining case involves Nepturis, Mamfor, KCJ Engineering and Azman Yusoff. Prosecutors closed their case after calling 29 witnesses.
The short version
The dropped charges narrow the case, but do not clear Muhyiddin of the remaining Jana Wibawa allegations.
