Lioness season 4 is no sure thing just yet
Paramount hasn't officially renewed the spy thriller, but the cast and crew are already betting on it.
In brief
Paramount hasn't officially renewed the spy thriller, but the cast and crew are already betting on it. While Lioness season 4 hasn't been officially greenlit, strong viewership numbers, cast confidence, and new writers joining the team suggest renewal is likely, though production delays could push release to late 2027…
Lioness built an A-list ensemble
Zoe Saldana leads the CIA spy show as Joe McNamara, with Nicole Kidman and Morgan Freeman in supporting roles. Saldana is the highest-grossing film actor of all time and the first actress with four films earning over 2 billion dollars globally.
Season 3 ended on a cliffhanger
Joe McNamara was kidnapped and escaped, vowing to find and kill whoever was behind it. Theories point to Russia, Iran, Ukraine, or even someone close to home as the mastermind.
“I'm gonna figure out who is behind this, and I'm gonna kill them.”
No official renewal yet
Paramount has not announced a season 4 renewal, but the show's future looks bright. Actress Jill Wagner bet $100 that the show will get renewed after fans see the season 3 finale.
“We're going to get a season 4. We will, we will.”
Writers already joining the team
Michael Idov announced on Instagram that he and a writing partner joined Lioness as writers and supervising producers, suggesting the crew is already working on season 4 content.
“An honor, chance, and challenge of a lifetime to write for the likes of Zoe Saldaña, Nicole Kidman, and Morgan Freeman.”
Viewership numbers favor renewal
The season 3 premiere drew 7.1 million viewers, outperforming season 2's debut. Strong ratings give Paramount good reason to greenlight another season.
Most cast expected to return
Saldana, Kidman, Freeman, Laysla De Oliveira, Jill Wagner, Michael Kelly, Dave Annable, and Thad Luckinbill should all return if the show gets renewed.
Cruz could take a bigger role
De Oliveira's character Cruz may get a stronger presence in season 4, with speculation that Joe could pass the torch to her. De Oliveira described Cruz as a wild cat with a heart of gold.
“She's a wild cat with a heart of gold.”
Release date could be delayed
Season 3 filmed from October 2025 to March 2026. With Kidman and Saldana's busy schedules and Sheridan working on Landman and Call of Duty, season 4 could arrive in late 2027 or 2028.
The big picture
While Lioness season 4 hasn't been officially greenlit, strong viewership numbers, cast confidence, and new writers joining the team suggest renewal is likely, though production delays could push release to late 2027 or 2028.
