Tesla Unveils Roadster Prototype
Tesla unveiled a redesigned Roadster electric sports car developed with SpaceX that uses suction fans and compressed-air thrusters to climb vertical surfaces and drive upside down.
How the Roadster Works
Fans reduce pressure under the chassis to create up to 4,700 kilograms of downforce, while carbon-fibre tanks hold 600 litres of compressed air for thrust.
Performance and Safety
The Roadster achieves 80 kilonewtons of thrust and accelerates from zero to 97 kilometres per hour in 0.81 seconds, but Musk noted it is not optimized for safety.
“It can basically fly like a rocket. It can do flips, crazy gymnastics, whatever you want really”
Available Versions
Tesla offers three versions: Performance and Thrust two-seaters with deposits of $50,000 and $250,000, and a Rocket single-seater available by invitation only.
