Ayuso Honours Kast at Ibero-American Summit

Madrid Awards Kast Medal

Madrid regional leader Isabel Diaz Ayuso awards Chile's president Jose Antonio Kast the International Medal ahead of the Ibero-American Summit.

“We defend the same things”

Ayuso's Statement

Ayuso said they 'defend the same things' on both sides of the Atlantic, emphasizing freedom, security, and the rule of law.

“We are free nations and we defend our governments and liberal democracies and the rule of law, which will not yield to authoritarianism”

Kast's Response

Kast praised Madrid as 'one of the most open, free and prosperous regions in Europe' and stressed security as his government's focus.

“It is the first duty of the state. And when the state fails in that duty, the most vulnerable pay”

Medal Background

The Community of Madrid's International Medal, created in 2017, is purely honorary and awarded on the regional president's personal initiative.
