Acuña takes foul ball to shin
Ronald Acuña Jr. fouled a pitch off his left leg during the third inning of Tuesday's game against the Reds at Truist Park. He fell to the ground in pain but limped back to the dugout under his own power.
Imaging comes back negative
About 30 minutes after the incident, the Braves announced X-rays were negative. A CT scan later confirmed Acuña is dealing with a left shin contusion, not a fracture.
“Obviously we'll err on the side of caution at this time of the year. But all things considered, it's good news.”
Acuña sits out Wednesday game

The five-time All-Star was out of the Braves' lineup for Wednesday's game against the Reds. His return before the homestand ends Thursday depends on how quickly the swelling decreases.
Braves clinched division, seeding set
Atlanta clinched the National League East on Sunday and will almost certainly be the NL's No. 3 seed when the postseason begins next week. The team is four games behind the Dodgers for the No. 2 seed.
Acuña's hot streak matters most
Acuña entered Tuesday hitting .372 with seven homers and a 1.119 OPS over 22 games since August 28. Only the Reds' Elly De La Cruz had better numbers during that span.
Late-season injuries haunt Braves
Atlanta has dealt with September injuries before the playoffs in recent years: Max Fried lost 15 pounds to a virus in 2022, Chris Sale's sore back sidelined him in 2024. The team won the 2021 World Series without Acuña after his ACL tear.
Here's the gist
