Anthony's Wrist Injury

Red Sox outfielder Roman Anthony was taken off the roster for the remainder of the American League Wild Card Series after imaging showed additional strains in his right wrist.

“I feel sick to my stomach. I haven't slept much.”

Anthony's Injury Timeline

Anthony suffered his initial injury on a check-swing foul ball in Detroit on May 4, resulting in a partially torn tendon in a joint connecting his right ring finger to his wrist.

Rehab Process Complications

Anthony experienced discomfort during Game 1, exiting the game in the sixth inning after striking out in his first two at-bats, feeling a familiar nauseating sensation.

Team Response

The Red Sox hired a car to drive Anthony back to Boston after Game 1, taking imaging on Wednesday morning that revealed new strains in his wrist.

Manager's Assessment

Red Sox manager Chad Tracy stated Anthony is sore and sent him back to Boston for additional imaging, revealing new strains in his wrist.

Medical Team's View

Red Sox chief baseball officer Craig Breslow confirmed Curtis Mead is medically cleared but noted the injury has worsened, requiring a fresh look at the prognosis.

Impact on Playoffs

Anthony's absence means the Red Sox cannot play in the AL Division Series if they advance, with their offense struggling to heat up without him.
