Crochet Wins Race Against Calendar

Garrett Crochet, Boston's Opening Day starter, won his race against the calendar and made it onto the American League Wild Card Series roster against the Yankees as a reliever.

“I'm just excited. It means a lot. When you're on the IL, you're kind on a lonely island, and now to be a part of the team again feels good.”

Crochet's Limited Role Expected

Crochet's appearances in this round will likely be limited to an inning, or at the very most, coming back out for part of a second inning.

Crochet's Injury Rehabilitation

Crochet hasn't pitched in a game since April 25, but convinced the Red Sox's brass with two live batting practices before the Wild Card Series.

Manager Tracy's Assessment

Red Sox manager Chad Tracy said Crochet was up to 96.5 mph in a live BP setting at Fenway Park and 95-plus in Fort Myers with nobody there.

Crochet's Reliever Role Confirmed

Crochet will be used as a reliever in the Wild Card Series after passing strength tests following Monday's team workout.

Crochet's Future in Series

Crochet said he'll go until they take the ball from him, showing openness to multiple appearances in the Wild Card Series.

“I'll go until they take the ball from me.”
