Cubs squander scoring chances

Chicago went 1-for-18 with runners in scoring position and stranded 15 runners, including seven in the final four innings. Manager Craig Counsell said the team simply didn't get the hits when it mattered.

“You're not going to win many games with that.”

The Cubs (87-70) are now tied with the Phillies and Padres for the NL Wild Card, with the D-backs four games back. Chicago holds the top seed due to winning the season series against both Philadelphia and San Diego.

Imanaga pitching at his best

The Cubs' left-hander threw five innings with one run allowed, seven strikeouts, and no walks. Over his last four starts, Imanaga has a 1.96 ERA with 23 strikeouts in 23 innings.

Imanaga's playoff schedule uncertain

The Cubs must figure out when to pitch Imanaga with Sunday's game in Boston potentially postponed due to weather and a Wild Card Series starting September 29. Imanaga said he'll pitch whenever the team needs him.

Crow-Armstrong chases 40-40 club

The Cubs center fielder stole his 39th base of the season and has 45 home runs, putting him one steal away from becoming the seventh player ever to join the exclusive 40-40 club. Cubs president Jed Hoyer called it super cool.

“There's only so many guys in the game that can even think about accomplishing it.”

The one thing

The Cubs remain in position to clinch a Wild Card spot but must win soon as they struggle in clutch situations.
