In brief
Boston's manager and baseball chief get long-term deals after orchestrating a stunning turnaround from 32-46 to playoff contention. The Red Sox rewarded the two executives who stabilized the organization after a disastrous start, signaling confidence in their direction. Originally reported by Mlb.
Tracy gets the permanent job
Chad Tracy, who took over as interim manager in April, signed a three-year deal through 2029 with a 2030 option to become the Red Sox's 49th permanent manager.
Breslow's options exercised
Chief baseball officer Craig Breslow, hired in fall 2023, had his contract options for 2029 and 2030 picked up by the Red Sox.
Brutal start forced action

The Red Sox started the season 32-46 before Breslow fired manager Alex Cora and five coaches after a 10-17 beginning. Tracy was promoted from interim to stabilize the clubhouse.
The turnaround was historic
From June 25 onward, the Red Sox went 32-5, clinching a postseason berth on Sunday and defying expectations after their disastrous start.
Tracy's long journey to the majors
Tracy played minor league baseball from 2006-2014 but never reached the majors. He then spent over a decade coaching, including four-plus years managing Triple-A Worcester before his Red Sox promotion.
“I'm gonna play baseball and I'm gonna become a big league player”
An emotional moment with players
Tracy shared the announcement with his players before the press conference, many of whom he'd managed in the minors. He said it was special to celebrate with guys he'd grown close to over five years.
“I choked up a little bit.”
Breslow tuned out the noise
When early managerial changes didn't immediately improve results, Breslow faced scrutiny. But he stayed focused on turning the team around rather than worrying about his own job security.
Continuity and stability secured
Red Sox president Sam Kennedy said the organization now has solid footing with continuity in baseball operations, positioning them well for October baseball starting September 29.
“This organization is on solid footing.”
The essence
The Red Sox rewarded the two executives who stabilized the organization after a disastrous start, signaling confidence in their direction.
