Live Nation hit with lawsuits

Live Nation faces at least three proposed class action lawsuits over a data breach involving Social Security numbers, government ID numbers, and health records.

Plaintiffs filed complaints

Amanda Fraga filed her complaint in the US District Court for the Central District of California on Tuesday (October 6), and Toby Gosman and Isiah Ramos filed theirs in the same court on Wednesday (October 7).

Plaintiffs' claims

All three plaintiffs say they learned of the breach from an article they read online and allege Live Nation did not encrypt the compromised data or notify impacted people for over four months.

Live Nation's response

Live Nation confirmed a small number of individuals may have been affected but stated the incident was limited in scope with no impact on operations.

Class action claims

The lawsuits seek damages, including punitive damages, lifetime credit monitoring for class members, and a court order to improve data security.

Ticketmaster history

Live Nation's subsidiary Ticketmaster was hit by data breaches in 2018 and 2024, with a 2024 breach involving unauthorized activity in a third-party cloud database.

Ticket transfer issues

Fans reported failed ticket transfers for events including Harry Styles at Madison Square Garden and Bruno Mars at SoFi Stadium starting October 2.

Ticketmaster disruption

Ticketmaster’s Fan Support account stated by October 3 that the majority of pending transfers were being processed within 60 minutes.

Coalition response

The Coalition for Ticket Fairness blamed the disruption on Ticketmaster’s dominance of live event ticketing, stating fans couldn’t use tickets when the system failed.

Antitrust trial

Live Nation contests a New York federal court ruling that found it and Ticketmaster illegally monopolized primary ticketing at major US concert venues.

The key point

Live Nation is sued by three former employees for a data breach that compromised Social Security numbers and health records, with claims of negligence and a proposed nationwide class action.
