White House press secretary Katie Zacharia announced Tuesday that the White House has asked U.S. Ambassador to Greece Kimberly Guilfoyle to resign.

“We have asked Ambassador Guilfoyle to resign. She has been a wonderful asset to the team, and we wish her well.”

Investigation into misconduct

Guilfoyle, fifty-seven, the former fiancée of Donald Trump Jr., has been under investigation by the State Department's Inspector General's Office.

Wall Street Journal allegations

The Wall Street Journal reported allegations that Guilfoyle bragged about connections to Greek tycoons who she said funded luxury trips for her, citing people who heard conversations and an audio recording.

Donor accuses her of quid pro quo

Trump donor Eric Deters accused Guilfoyle of asking him to pay her outstanding one hundred thousand dollar American Express bill in exchange for access to senior administration officials.

“She was so desperate for that $100,000. It was a quid pro quo.”

Text message about payment

A text message provided by Deters showed Guilfoyle instructing him to wire money directly to American Express because it won't show up anywhere that way. He said he did not pay her.

Guilfoyle's attorneys deny wrongdoing

Attorneys David Schwartz and Jesse Binnall said Deters owed her money for speaking engagements, which he denies. They denied allegations of impropriety involving her travel, saying she sought and followed State Department guidance.

Trump shifts from sympathy to concern

President Donald Trump said Friday it was too bad and that she was always very nice.By Monday, his tone hardened.

“We're looking at it. We're not happy.”

Administration officials defend her

Vice President JD Vance said these are accusations and we don't try people in the court of public opinion.

“Let's actually see what the facts are. Let's see what the truth is, and obviously if there was something bad that happened, then people have to suffer consequences for it.”
