Politico barred from Air Force One

The White House prohibited Politico from traveling on Air Force One with President Donald Trump on Monday as he headed to Nebraska for a campaign rally.
Part of broader press restrictions
The move comes amid a legal fight between the Trump administration and several news organizations over press access to White House events and presidential travel.
White House defends the decision
A White House official said traveling with the President aboard Air Force One is a privilege not a right, distinguishing it from attending presidential events.
“traveling with the President of the United States aboard Air Force One is a privilege not a right”
Earlier bans and court order
The White House banned Politico, CNN and MS NOW from the White House last month. Trump said on Truth Social the move was a result of their constant fake news reporting. A federal judge ordered temporary access restoration but limited it to White House grounds.
“a result of their constant 'reporting' FAKE NEWS!”
CNN also removed from Texas trip
The White House removed CNN from the press pool set to cover Trump's trip to Texas and Oklahoma the previous week, continuing the pattern of restrictions.
How the press pool works
The White House press pool consists of media outlets that share video, editorial information and costs for coverage of presidential events worldwide. Designated poolers represent the wider press corps to document newsworthy events and serve as a conduit between the president and the public.
Other outlets show solidarity
After CNN was restricted last month, Fox News, ABC News, CBS News and NBC News declined to participate in pool duties in solidarity. CBS said it could not find a replacement for Politico as the print pool on Monday.
CBS shares pool notes with press association
CBS said it would share its TV pool notes with the White House Correspondents' Association instead of distributing them only internally among the five pool networks, as is standard practice.
Media organizations file legal brief
The White House Correspondents' Association, the Reporters Committee for Freedom of the Press and forty nine news and media organizations including NBCUniversal Media filed a legal brief last month in support of CNN, MS NOW and Politico.
The short version
The White House barred Politico from traveling on Air Force One to Nebraska on October fifth, part of an ongoing dispute with news organizations over press access.
