A fact-finding mission commissioned by the U.N. Human Rights Council concluded the United States committed war crimes in two strikes in Iran on February 28, killing at least 178 civilians.

School in Minab was direct target

At least one U.S. missile hit the Shajareh Tayyebeh school in Minab. Iranian state media reported 168 people were killed, mostly children.

Tomahawk missiles hit clearly identifiable school

The U.N. team found the school building was deliberately targeted with Tomahawk missiles, not an errant strike or accidental damage from a nearby military compound.

“the building of the school was the intended point of impact”

Second strike hit sports complex

Second strike hit sports complex

Precision Strike Missiles dispersed tungsten pellets over a sports complex and residential area in Lamerd on the same day, killing 22 civilians according to the U.N. team.

White House rejects findings

The Trump administration dismissed the report as unserious, claiming Iran is the only party that committed war crimes by murdering its own people and launching indiscriminate attacks.

“The only party in this conflict that has committed war crimes is the Iranian regime”

Iran also faces crimes against humanity charges

The same U.N. team found Iran's government committed crimes against humanity through violent repression, torture, and arbitrary detention of its own citizens over the past two years.

Iran intensified executions

Iran intensified executions

Iranian security forces fired on crowds, beat protesters, and arrested healthcare workers. More than 70 people, including five women and three boys, face imminent execution risk.

Both nations should pay reparations

The U.N. experts called for the United States and Iran to halt violations and provide full reparations to victims based on interviews with 73 people and satellite imagery.

Governments blocked investigation

Iran ignored nearly three dozen requests for information, and the U.S. ignored requests in June for information and meetings with officials, hampering the team's fact-finding efforts.

The essence

A U.N.-backed fact-finding mission concluded the U.S. committed war crimes in Iran through indiscriminate attacks that killed at least 178 civilians, while also documenting systematic crimes against humanity by Iran's government.
