A 77-7 blowout that counts like a real game
Miami paid Florida A&M for a record humiliation, and the stats will be treated as if it were a road test at Georgia.
In brief
Miami paid Florida A&M for a record humiliation, and the stats will be treated as if it were a road test at Georgia. Stats from a bought, lopsided game get folded into rankings anyway, which tells you how little the numbers mean. Originally reported by New York Post.
It just doesn't matter
The setup is rigged, everyone can see it, and the sport carries on as if nothing is wrong. Ignorance is not an accident here, it is the preference.
“It just doesn't matter.”
Miami 77, Florida A&M 7
Thursday night on ESPN's ACC Network, Miami hosted Florida A&M and won by seventy points. It was billed as a college football game.
They shortened the game
The scoreline got so absurd that the two coaches agreed to cut the fourth quarter short. The people on the field admitted it had stopped being a contest.
“a "game" so bereft of sport and so pervaded by the preposterous”
The numbers still count
Every yard and every stop from that slaughter goes into Miami's season percentages and national ranks, sitting alongside results earned against real opponents.
Repeated as enlightenment
Media will quote those totals back to you all season, presented as if Miami had gone into Athens and beaten Georgia on the road.
“to be repeated and emphasized by media for your enlightenment”
Just send the check
If the point was paying Florida A&M, the beating was optional. The favor was money, and the game was the price the smaller school had to pay for it.
“Why not just send A&M a check?”
Here's the gist
Stats from a bought, lopsided game get folded into rankings anyway, which tells you how little the numbers mean.
