Car crashes into backyard pool

Damage to a Fort Worth fence after a car crash.

A speeding car smashed through a Fort Worth fence Sunday evening, sending debris into a pool where three children were playing. A 2-year-old on the patio was just inches from the crash path.

“Our 2-year-old was in our backyard, just inches away from where a vehicle came crashing through our fence.”

Twins in pool nearly killed

The Van Dusen family's 5-year-old twins were swimming when the 22-year-old driver lost control. The family said their safe backyard became a scene where they faced losing a child.

Speeding is constant problem

Neighbors say reckless driving happens daily from 3 p.m. to 10 p.m. One resident heard an explosion and immediately knew there was a crash.

“Every day from 3 o'clock till 10 o'clock, at least, it's constant.”

City promises stop sign soon

Fort Worth Councilmember Charles Lauersdorf pledged traffic-calming measures immediately. He expects a stop sign within 30 days, but a stoplight requires a traffic study first.

“Any time you have these new developments that just have long stretches of road with nothing to slow drivers down, it's a problem.”

Driver only got a citation

Police cited the driver but didn't arrest them. Texas law treats reckless driving as a misdemeanor with a maximum $200 fine and up to 30 days in jail.

Family wants real change

The Van Dusens say a simple ticket is inadequate for endangering their children's lives. They want meaningful action, not just finger-pointing.

“A fence can be repaired. Property can be replaced. But a child's life cannot.”
